Yoake Gallery stems from a passion for Japanese culture and ink art (Shodō, painting, drawing), offering a platform for calligraphers and artists of Japanese inspiration. It is a tool designed to generate recurring income, allowing artists to live off their art.
Yoake Gallery’s vision is to become the global reference point for the online market of Shodō and Japanese-inspired ink art, creating a marketplace where the calligrapher/artist can monetize their art towards Japan enthusiasts, collectors, and other artists.
The platform eliminates the typical barriers of the traditional art market, thus without intermediaries, and offering a transparent system that directly connects artists with collectors worldwide.
Subjects must be works of Shodō calligraphy and Japanese-inspired ink art (traditional, modern/contemporary, manga/anime).
An artist’s exhibition can include:
Structured model on different levels:
Each exhibition should ideally include between 16 and 30 works. For group exhibitions, 5 artists, 7 works each (total 35).
Yes, every calligrapher/artist/photographer can apply to sell:
Selection for exhibitions is by direct invitation from Yoake only. However, it is possible to apply to sell your works without a proper exhibition.
Exhibitions remain online indefinitely. There is no forced rotation of works: each writer has their permanent space on the platform and available works remain on sale for at least one year or until the contract is renewed.
For each exhibition, there is an exclusive contract related only to the exhibited works with automatic renewal every 12 months. For collective exhibitions, no exclusivity is required. Both parties have the right to request, three months before the expiration, to terminate it. Intellectual property remains with the artist.
Once published, the exhibition maintains its curatorial integrity and it is not possible to modify or replace the works. If a writer wants to present new works and there is an agreement with Yoake Gallery, it is possible to organize a new exhibition at a later time.
Payments are made monthly or when sales reach 500 euros, after issuing an invoice or receipt. Each writer has access to their account on the Yoake website where they can see sales in real time and request their payment.
There are no costs. Yoake Gallery covers all expenses: production of the documentary (when possible), production of the catalog, photographs, marketing and platform management, VAT payment. The 50% commission is withheld only on actual sales.
The writer has full autonomy in defining the prices of the works. Upon request, Yoake Gallery provides advice on market prices and suggests an optimal range to maximize sales, based on experience and market data. The final decision, however, remains with the artist/photographer.
Yes, especially for the first 7 days when Priority List members receive a discount, for transparency, the sale price, even of the most expensive works, must be displayed.
To calculate the selling price starting from the amount you want to receive, consider that most sales will occur in the first 7 days with the 20% Priority List discount. Formula: Full price = Desired net amount × 2.5
For original works, high-resolution photographs (minimum 300 dpi) are required, and for works intended for printing, professional quality images are necessary. For digitally created works, the type of file needed will be communicated on a case-by-case basis.
The documentary is filmed in the writer’s studio or city over the course of one or two days. It is not necessary to show your face if you wish to remain anonymous. The service is completely included but not always guaranteed, depending on distance and other factors related to the availability of those who must do the filming.
Various types of materials are available, from paper to canvas to wood and metal. For each work, there will be multiple formats and different materials available to give every budget the opportunity to find what they can afford.
Each exhibition has its own catalog, created by Yoake Gallery, available for free in digital format that can be browsed online (not downloadable) and in print-on-demand paper format. The revenues from catalog sales follow the same 50-50 distribution.
Each exhibition on Yoake Gallery includes a line of personalized merchandise, developed in collaboration with the writer. The catalog includes various products such as:
– T-shirts and sweatshirts with prints of works or graphic details related to the exhibition
– Cell phone cases
– Mugs
– Magnets
– Stickers
– Bookmarks
– Reproductions on wood or metal
Further customizations are possible to be evaluated jointly with Yoake. The percentage for merchandise is 50% for the artist and 50% for Yoake, net of costs. The rights are licensed for 12 months, renewable indefinitely.
Preparing an exhibition takes between two and three months. This time is necessary to create the documentary, professionally photograph the works, produce video content, create the catalog, prepare the communication campaign, and test the print-on-demand prints.
Print-on-demand prints and merchandise are produced and shipped locally in the buyer’s country or in the same economic area. The shipping of original works is managed by the writer themselves or by the buyer according to agreements made outside the Yoake platform.
The writer retains all rights to their works. For print-on-demand works, including merchandise, they grant Yoake Gallery the exclusive right of reproduction. The produced content (documentary, photos, catalog) can be used by both parties for promotion.
Each writer has a direct contact at Yoake Gallery who handles all aspects of the collaboration, from exhibition preparation to daily management. Support is available via email or WhatsApp.
